Viking Runecraft Slot Review
Feel the fury of ancient Norse gods in Viking Runecraft, Play’n Go’s seven-reel video slot that benefits from cascading reels and is packed with additional features. Join Odin, Freya, Thor and Heimdall, experience the Fury of Fenrir, Judgement of Jormungandr, Scorching of Surtr, Lure of Loki, trigger the Runes of Valhalla bonus and activate the Ragnarok Free Round for massive wins. You probably pretended to be Vikings when you were children, exploring the seas, looking for spoils. Now you have the chance to win some serious cash without even having to board a Viking ship.
The reels are set on the open sea, which really reminds us of Vikings, as well as the symbols used in the 2018 release. Every Viking likes Hammers, Axes, Helmets, Necklaces, which are used as high-value symbols. Four types of Runes represent low-paying icons. Thor, Odin, Freia and Hemdal are also there to help you and they will stand next to the reels on certain levels, while their genuine gold symbols appear on the reels, acting as Wilds that substitute for all symbols. Spirits of Fenrir, Jormungandr, Surtr and Loki will be there during the Charge of Destruction.
In the very beginning, the game may seem a bit complicated, because there are plenty of additional features players can benefit from. The 2017 release features a 7×7 playing grid and benefits from cluster pays and cascading reels. Make a cluster of 5 matching symbols horizontally or vertically and you will win a payout. Also, winning symbols explode and make room for new ones to appear and hopefully create a new winning cluster. Exploding symbols are added to the Charge Meter and 20 will trigger the Charge of Destruction. There are levels to be passed and on each level one of the gods will help you form wining clusters. Once you clear the pattern in the background, you will move to a new level.
We started talking about the Charge of Destruction, triggered after 20 winning symbols achieved in succession. Gamers will charge the Meter and get one of four charges. Fury of Fenrir selects four diagonal lines, destroys two and turns two into identical symbols. Judgement of Jormungandr selects a chain of symbols on the grid and destroys most of them, while the others are turned into identical symbols. Scorching of Surtr will turn 3 symbols on fire and the fire will spread on nearby symbols. The burnt symbols are replaced by new identical symbols for guaranteed wins. Lore of Loki takes two symbols, destroys one of them and all instances of the symbol on the reels, while the other is turned to another symbol.
After 20 more winning symbols (40 in total), or once you charge the meter for the second time, the Ragnarok feature is triggered. Players get one free spin and the Charge Meter turns into a Multiplier Meter. Depending on the number of winning symbols during the free spin, gamers can get 2x, 3x, 5x or 15x multipliers. After the feature is over all four Charge of Destruction features are performed.
On each level, a different god will help you on random spins. Every god has a different gift. Thor will reward you with 5-9 Wilds. Odin creates four Wilds in group of two. Freya creates Wilds in four clusters until a win is achieved, while Heimdall creates one Wild for each row. Finally, there is the Valhalla feature, triggered when at least one Rune stone is collected (they are collected when you form winning clusters with them) and once the level is passed. Spin the Bonus Wheel and if it lands on a collected Rune, you will win a prize.
Lots of additional features means there are plenty of possibilities to win big. Runes of Valhalla can get you some sweet Bonus wins. Gods and spirits are there to help you land generous payouts with their Wilds and symbol switches. The Ragnarok feature comes with multipliers and all four Charge of Destruction options. The maximum payout is set at 5,000 times the bet per spin. Viking Runecraft’s RTP is 96.7%.
