The core gameplay loop of Winds of Wealth is a straightforward, basic slot experience. You play it on a relatively large 5×4 table with 9 regular symbols of different values.

In a classic video slot fashion, the goal is to arrange matching symbols from left to right, starting at the leftmost reel. Winning lines of symbols have to be along one of 30 possible paylines.

However, the Winds of Wealth game feature allows paylines to work from right to left as well. More on that later.

The staking system also reminds us of good old fruit machines. You pay a coin per payline, which then translates into your total stake. For instance, the smallest stake you can use is €0.30 – 30 paylines at 1 cent each.

According to the Winds of Wealth paytable, each reel also contains one stacked mystery symbol. Before every spin, every mystery position on every reel is replaced by one identical symbol. This feature largely works “under the hood” to increase the game’s hit rate. You won’t see much of it in action, though.

Well, we’ve been building up these Winds of Wealth special features for a while – it’s time to look at what they actually do.

The Wilds symbol is your basic trump card, in slot terms. It replaces anything else except for special symbols. It cannot replace Scatters, however, and cannot appear on the first reel.

The scatter symbol pays anywhere on the table if you hit 3 of them. It doesn’t have to be next to other scatter symbols nor follow paylines. It’s the highest-paying symbol in the entire game and it awards free spins.

Winds of Wealth free spins are awarded depending on how many scatters you’ve hit in one spin. You get 10, 15, or 25 for 3, 4, or 5 scatters, respectively. Free spins can be re-triggered and have a higher chance of triggering Winds of Wealth.

Speaking of which, the Winds of Wealth are a random feature that can appear on any spin if you’re lucky. The proverbial wind blows and essentially removes all low-paying symbols from the grid. New symbols tumble down from the top of the table to replace them, hopefully forming new winning combinations.

Even though this game is marketed as not very volatile, it doesn’t always feel that way. With 10 paying symbols, the base gameplay sometimes feels stretched thin. Moreover, no three-symbol combination is enough to even cover the costs of the stake. Not even the big ones, barring the Scatter.

While Winds of Wealth RTP sits at a decent 95.72%, it sure doesn’t always feel that way. Basically, the best way to get any sort of profit is through the Winds of Wealth feature. We’re not thrilled about how it all fits together, if we’re being perfectly honest.

Overall, playing Winds of Wealth for real money is a mixed experience. We appreciate what the developers tried to do with the whole wind theme. The mechanics fit the theme, and that’s admirable.

However, it ends up being completely crucial to how the game works. Trying to get any sort of return without the feature feels like a losing battle. And there is no way to anticipate when and how it will happen. Of course, chance and luck are crucial for slots. However, we feel like the system’s implementation comes at the expense of a worthwhile player experience.
