INTRODUCTION

Blackjack has firmly established itself as the go-to casino game for players who enjoy playing with cards. Since the live casino game format has been around, many software providers have tackled trying to implement Twenty One into live dealer tables. However, doing so has proven to be quite difficult. Blackjack is notably more interactive than most other online casino games, allowing for more player agency. Moreover, making a good blackjack game is a careful balancing act in trying to provide player-friendly rules with solid payouts. Not that there aren’t plenty of great examples out there, mind you. It’s just worth mentioning that only good, experienced live casino software providers can provide blackjack tables – and only great providers can provide great blackjack tables.

Live Blackjack from BETER Live certainly falls into this category. This shouldn’t be a surprise – pretty much all BETER Live games we’ve reviewed are excellent casino products. This becomes immediately apparent as soon as you launch the game for the first time. You’ll be greeted by friendly dealers and a bespoke set made to simulate the experience of a real-life casino. The game’s graphical fidelity and usability are generally its strong points, and it’s easy to see why. Everything about the game looks good and runs well, which any seasoned player should appreciate.

The good looks are just the tip of the iceberg, though. In this BETER Live Blackjack review, we’ll take an in-depth look at everything this variant of live table blackjack has to offer.

HOW TO PLAY BETER LIVE BLACKJACK

All you need to do to play BETER Live Blackjack for real money is head over to a casino that hosts BETER games. Before you find a table and take your seat, we should note that the game uses a 7-seat table layout. Among other things, this means that the number of people who can play at a time is limited. If there are no places available, you’ll have to wait for one to free up or pick a different table. Alternatively, you can use the option to Bet Behind, which allows you to bet on other players’ hands. If you want a BETER Live blackjack game with unlimited seats, you can check out Gravity Blackjack.

Anyway, the rules at this table are industry-standard for Blackjack. It uses 8 decks of cards, and the goal is to draw until you get to 21 as quickly as possible without going over. Start by selecting the size of your stake and placing it on the main bet position of your chosen spot. Note that the minimum bet in BETER Live Blackjack is €5 due to the limited player count. It’s pretty steep, but most live Twenty-One tables out there have similar limits.

As always, every round allows you to Hit, Stand, Double, or Split. Every player at the table gets their own turn. starting with the rightmost position. A single player can play multiple hands per turn. However, they still have to put up a stake for each hand separately, which means you’re taking up multiple places at the table.

A typical round flows as you would expect and ends when the dealer is done with their hand. However, explaining all of the ins and outs of blackjack as a whole is beyond the scope of this game review. If you’re not familiar with the very basics of blackjack, check out this beginner’s guide.

As far as notable rules are concerned, they’re quite player-friendly. You can Double on any card and even after a Split, but you only draw one card afterwards. However, you cannot resplit and aren’t allowed to surrender early. The dealer stands on any 17, and you automatically win if you don’t bust after drawing 10 cards. Additionally, you can opt to buy Insurance if the dealer is showing an Ace.

Side Bets

On top of the main game we described above, there are two BETER Live Blackjack side bets – 21+3 and Pairs. Both are very common among live casino blackjack games, but we’ll explain how they work anyway.

  • Player Pair wins if the first two cards you draw are of the same rank. Increased payouts are awarded if the two cards are also of the same colour or suit.
  • Dealer Pair does the same thing as Player Pair but looks at the first two cards the dealer draws.
  • 21+3 uses your first two cards and the dealer’s face-up card to make three-card poker hands. The stronger your hand, the bigger the payout.

We’ll also explain how Bet Behind works in live blackjack by BETER. Betting behind means that you’re wagering on the outcome of another player. If they win, so do you. However, Betting Behind only affects the main blackjack bet and not side bets. You can find the option to Bet Behind below each of the 7 main betting positions if they’re currently active.

Casino Bloke Best tips for BETER Live Blackjack

  • 1Newbies to blackjack should strongly consider using blackjack charts. If you're not following one, the game's house edge increases.
  • 2Similarly, blackjack side bets are hard to use correctly due to their relatively lower RTP. They're best avoided by beginners, but experienced players can make great use for them.
  • 3BETER Live Blackjack does not allow players to surrender - keep that in mind before deciding on a strategy.

PAYOUTS & RTP

Like most classic casino games, blackjack has fixed payouts with very little variation between different tables. Nevertheless, it’s worth going over them to see what you can expect.

Winning a round pays a basic reward of 1:1, which is to be expected. Winning with a Blackjack hand pays 3:2, which is the highest option for standard games of Twenty-One. Finally, a successful insurance bet pays 2:1.

As far as the side bets are concerned, each has its own rules. The Perfect Pair and Dealer Pair bets pay 6:1 for a basic set of same-valued cards. If the cards are of the same color, the prize is increased to 12:1, or even all the way up to 25:1 for cards of the same suit. This brings the RTP of this side bet to 95.90%.

Conversely, the payouts for 21+3 wagers depend on how strong your poker hand is. You’ll need at least a Flush to win 5:1, but the rewards go up to 100:1 for a suited three-of-a-kind. This sets the bet’s RTP rate to 96.30%.

Finally, we’ll mention that BETER Live Blackjack RTP sits at 99.51%. That figure is well above average even by blackjack standards, and it’s achieved through player-friendly rules. However, we should mention that this return to player rate assumes you’re playing optimally with a basic blackjack strategy. Any mistakes or deviations from blackjack charts are likely to noticeably drop the game’s RTP.

BETER LIVE BLACKJACK – CASINO BLOKE’S VERDICT

There’s little left to say about this live casino game that the review above didn’t already cover. To sum up, our impressions of Live Blackjack by BETER Live are overwhelmingly positive. The visuals, gameplay, and other building blocks are all up to a high standard of quality. Moreover, the table rules stand out by being favourable to players and offering a very strong RTP rate.

The only issue we can note at this time is the limited number of seats. Finding a spot can be tricky during prime time, so we hope more tables open up in the future. That’s hardly a fault of the game itself, though. Pretty much everything else compares favourably to other products in this class.

Anyone looking to play blackjack online can’t do wrong with BETER Live’s take on the genre. If you want the good old 7-seat layout with versatile table limits and great graphics, this game is a superb pick.
