Jacks or Better served as a foundation for other video poker variants that followed, yet still, it managed to remain consequential.

HOW TO PLAY JACKS OR BETTER

Jacks or Better is an online game powered by Flash technology so, to be able to play it, make sure you have your Flash player enabled in your browser. One deck of cards is used, without Jokers or Wild cards, so there will be no additional possibilities of completing winning hands other than random draws provided by the RNG.

Five cards are in play, so the winning hands are as follows, in ascending order:

  • Jacks or Better
  • Two Pairs
  • Three of a Kind
  • Straight
  • Flush
  • Full House
  • Four of a Kind
  • Straight Flush
  • Royal Flush

The payouts for each hand are based on the number of coins you wager. You can adjust your bet by using the ‘-‘ and ‘+’ options. Then, click on the paytable to select the hand you want to bet. Click on Deal and the game will generate five cards drawn from the deck. You can fix your 5-card hand by replacing cards that you don’t want. Before you hit Draw, make sure to click on the cards that you do want to hold on to. The final hand will appear and you will be paid if your bet won.

EXTRA FEATURES

If you don’t want to play your hands manually, you can play a number of rounds through the Autoplay feature. The software will make the decisions for you according to a mathematically correct strategy and you will be able to set the settings to stop the automatic play after certain conditions are met (a pre-set win is achieved, for example).

Expert mode comes with the Auto Hold feature which automatically holds the cards that constitute a pair or a higher. Also, there is a Double functionality, basically a Gamble feature in which you can try to double your wins. The machine deals one face-up card and four cards placed face-down. You must choose one of the four and if the value of the selected card is higher than the card dealt face-up, you will double your earnings.

PAYOUTS

The minimum bet in Jacks or Better is o.25 and the maximum is 100 units. The maximum payout that can be expected is 4000 coins, which comes as a result of a Royal Flush (10, J, Q, K and Ace of the same suit). That translates to 20,000 in the player’s selected currency.
