INTRODUCTION

Microgaming never ceases to amaze us with their video slots, sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way. Poke the Guy is the latest addition to Microgaming’s list of video slots, even though it doesn’t look like a video slot at all, more like an arcade video game. It all comes down to chasing a weird-looking Guy, who jumps around the screen, while you try to hit him with various objects, like ice-creams, rubber duckies, knives, etc. Poke the Guy will not go unnoticed, that’s for sure, but we will have to wait and see the reaction of gamers.

HOW TO PLAY POKE THE GUY

The main character of the 2018 release is a weird-looking Guy dressed in a funny yellow outfit. He is smiling and jumping around, waiting to be hit. Gamers will use a Weapon that catapults lots of items, like dead Fish, sharp Knives, Ice-creams, Rubber Duckies and Bushes. The game is set on a cartoon map with lots of buildings and some famous sites, like the Pyramids, the Sphinx, Eifel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, etc.

There are no reels, no rows and no paylines, nothing that makes Poke the Guy a regular video slot. The goal is to catapult a certain item from the weapon that looks like an electrified fork and hit the Guy in yellow outfit. Depending on the item you choose, the bet will go up, but you can also increase the bet in the Total Bet outfit. So, the lowest you can wager is $0.01, and the maximum possible bet cannot go over $30 per shot. You can speed the shooting up a bit by activating the Fast Forward option.

EXTRA FEATURES

There are no special features on the offer in the Microgaming title. The only thing you have to do in order to win payouts is click on the weapon and shoot it at the Guy. What can be very frustrating is the fact that the weapon is shooting at random, so you don’t have any control over what happens on the screen. Also, the payouts are given at random, because the wins can be with a 2x, 4x, 8x, 12x, 18x and 500x multiplier of the triggering bet, but we didn’t manage to understand the pattern and how the payouts are calculated.

PAYOUTS

Depending on the weapon you choose, and the total bet you set, every spin can cost differently, but the bigger the bet, the bigger the possible payout. If you poke the Guy, you can win 2x the bet, as well as 4x, 8x, 12x, 18x and 500x the bet. If Lady Luck is on your side, you will pocket the maximum possible payout of 500 times the bet, or $15,000 if the bet is set to the max.

For the first time in a while, it took us a bit longer to fully digest a new video slot on the offer. We are still wondering what Microgaming wanted to achieve with Poke the Guy. Is this game a practical joke, or do they really mean business? Time will tell whether Poke the Guy is an innovative video slot or a complete disaster, but from our point of view, someone at Microgaming made a bad call when the game was developed.
