INTRODUCTION

The “Book of…” series of games is almost a sort of genre among slots. Popularized by Play’n GO’s mega-hit Book of Dead, these slots are typically all about powerful free spin rounds triggered by special Scatter symbols.

Book of Time by Hacksaw Gaming works in some ways like most “book” slots, but it’s also an entirely unique take. First of all, the special features had a lot of thought put into them. We also have to take a moment to note how amazing the graphics are. The visual style looks like an old-timey cartoon, and Hacksaw Gaming absolutely nailed the aesthetic. HOW TO PLAY BOOK OF TIME

Despite the large and somewhat unusual-looking game board, Hacksaw Gaming’s Book of Time is as simple of a slot as they come. You have 5 reels and 4 rows in which you need to make combinations of matching symbols.

All winning combinations have to contain at least 3 identical symbols. Also, all go from left to right, starting from the leftmost reel. To win, your combinations also have to fit one of 20 active paylines.

That’s pretty much all you need to play the base game. You can use the controls on the right of the screen to set the size of your stake and hit Spin. Alternatively, you can click on the ‘BONUS BUY’ button to purchase bonus features. Most of these simply trigger one of the bonus rounds we’ll describe later in this Book of Time slot review.

However, you can also activate Bonushunt Featurespins. This option does not automatically trigger anything, but it increases the chances of bonus symbols appearing by 4 times. In exchange, you have to pay 3 times your stake per spin.

Landing three Books awards 10 free spins and a single special symbol. Four or five Books award 15 spins/2 special symbols or 20 spins/3 special symbols, respectively.

Book of Time free spins are called ‘It’s a Classic!’. Besides just getting a bunch of spins for free, these spins also have designated special symbols, which are randomly selected when the bonus triggers. A special symbol becomes like a scatter and is able to win no matter where it is on the table, as long as there are at least three of them. Additionally, any winning special symbols during Free Spins spread to cover the entire reel.

Clocks are also Scatter symbols and do not need be arranged. However, they only appear on reels 2, 3, and 4. Hitting all three triggers the ‘What Time Is It?’ feature.

‘What Time is It?’ first awards you 10 free spins. However, during this mode, clocks appear on reels 2, 3, and 4. These clocks randomly select a multiplier (between 1x and 12x). Also, special Wild symbols that look like an X can appear during this bonus round.

Every time a Wild appears on a reel, every symbol between it and the top of that reel is turned into a wild. Additionally, all of them are assigned multipliers based on the clock of the reel they’re on. These multipliers are then applied to any winning combinations they’re a part of.

There’s a lot going on between the Books, Clocks, and various bonus rounds they can trigger. Moreover, the bonus rounds are quite profitable in our experience. Hacksaw made a very smart decision when they allowed us to purchase access whenever we want. The one exception perhaps would be the ‘What Time Is It?’ bonus. It’s reserved for thrill-seekers who enjoy as much volatility as possible.

If you haven’t gathered by now, the Book of Time online slot can appeal to many people. It’s customizable (up to a point), so you can tailor your experience to fit your needs.
