Sidewinder Slot Review
A genuine combination of an old-school slot machine and a modern video slot is coming your way this fall and it is called Sidewinder. The 2018 release is the latest Microgaming product and it features a 3-5-5-5-3 reel formation, offering from 243 up to 1,125 ways to win. Three types of Wilds and two horizontal reels will get you the Sidewinder feature, while three or more Sidewinder Scatters trigger the Free Spins feature, which comes with two horizontal reels that may activate Expanding Wilds and is played with 1,125 ways to win.
The theme of the Microgaming title is classic, hence the symbols used are very old school. Red Lucky Sevens will get you the most and are followed by Golden Bells, Silver Horseshoes, Emerald Clovers and Bar symbols. Card suits represent low-value icons. There are three types of Wilds – Regular Wild, Top Wild and Bottom Wild, but there are also Expanding Wilds, which only appear during the Free Spins feature. All Wilds will substitute for all regular symbols on the reels. Freebies are triggered with the little help of Sidewinder Scatters.
As we already mentioned, the 2018 release features a bit peculiar3-5-5-5-3 formation, with five vertical reels and two horizontal reels, which expand the reel grid. During base game, players will play with 243 ways to win, but, once the two horizontal reels are activated, gamers will play with up to 1,125 ways to win. Three of a kind is the minimum for landing payouts and spinners need to land at least three matching symbols on successive reels, beginning from the far left reel. Betting starts at £0.10 and the biggest possible wager cannot go over £100 per spin.
The Top Wild activates the top horizontal reel, while the Bottom Wild activates the bottom horizontal reel. This is called the Sidewinder feature. One horizontal reel will get you 576 ways to win while both of them get players 1,125 ways to win. As for the Free Spins feature, it is triggered when three or four Scatters appear on reels 2, 4 and both horizontal reels. Gamers can bet from 6 to 10 freebies, depending on the number of Scatters landed. For every additional Sidwinder Scatter that appears on the reels, punters get one extra free spin. If two Wilds land on the same position on horizontal reels, they will connect and form an Expanding Wild on one of the three central regular reels.
It is obvious that gamers can expect big payouts during the Free Spins feature, because this is when spinners get 1,125 ways to win and lots of possible Wilds. Also, big wins can be expected during the Sidewinder feature. Lucky Sevens pay the most, offering 8 times the bet for five of a kind. The Bell pays 7 times the bet for the maximum combo. Sidewinder’s RTP is 96.02%.
Sidewinder on Mobile
Even though the Microgaming title is themed after a classic video slot, the 2018 release is very up-to-date when it comes to modern technologies. The graphics may seem simple, but they are pretty sharp and the quality of the game is simply excellent, meaning that Sidewinder can be played on any device and will offer the same gaming experience on every compatible gadget.
– Up to 1,125 ways to win available
– Three types of Wilds and expanding Wilds in free spins
– Playable across all devices
– No multipliers
– Symbols don’t pay much
– Generic card suits
To be completely honest, we were not impressed with the latest Microgaming title. Frankly, we expected more. The 2018 release houses crisp graphics and a futuristic soundtrack and offers a couple of interesting additional features, but that is not enough, at least for us. Symbols don’t pay that much and you will not play with all 1,125 ways to win that often. The Free Spins feature takes forever to be triggered and the game can really suck your balance dry in a short period of time if you are not paying attention. This will definitely not be our first pick this fall.
